Step 05 of 10 Sign agreement

Consent, in your hands.

Your agreement. Your terms. You can revoke it at any time, for any reason, without explanation.

1. Your content stays yours.

You own everything you contribute. MindBank is licensed to publish it through our platform under the terms below — nothing more.

2. Anonymity is the default.

Your name, identifying details, specific dates, and geographic specifics will be removed before any organization sees your contribution. You review and approve every published version before it goes live.

3. Consent is continuous.

You can revoke consent at any time, for any reason, without explanation. Within 24 hours of your request, your content is removed from the platform. Within 30 days, it is removed from all backups.

4. Compensation is standard.

You will be paid $100–$200 per substantive contribution within 14 days of publication. If your contribution is later used in commercial work, you receive additional compensation.

5. Your data lives in Canada.

All identifying information stays on Canadian-region servers. We follow PIPEDA. Your details are never shared with subscribing organizations.

6. We will not.

We will not sell your data. We will not allow content to be used to identify or surveil any individual. We will not release content without your explicit approval. We will not retain your data beyond what you've consented to.

Step 05 of 10 Ethical use agreement

The terms that bind us.

This agreement is what makes MindBank possible. Every subscribing organization signs it. It protects contributors — and it protects you, by making expectations clear.

1. Permitted uses.

Subscribing organization may access content for: staff training, program design, policy submissions, and the specific uses identified in your application. All other uses require advance written approval.

2. Prohibited uses.

Content may not be: redistributed externally, shared with third parties, used to identify contributors, used in carceral contexts, used in commercial reuse without renewed consent, or used in any way that could harm contributors or their communities.

3. Attribution and citation.

When citing MindBank content in internal documents, attribute as: "Source: MindBank lived-experience library." Never attempt to credit individual contributors. Never link content to specific demographics in ways that could identify.

4. Annual impact reporting.

Organization will participate in an annual reflection on use, learnings, and changes. This is collaborative, not punitive — it's how we demonstrate the platform's value.

5. Notification of misuse.

Organization will notify MindBank of any actual or suspected breach of this agreement within 5 business days.

6. Audit and accountability.

MindBank may suspend access on credible suspicion of misuse, pending investigation. Confirmed misuse results in subscription termination, contributor notification, and may include public disclosure.

7. Term and renewal.

One-year term. Auto-renewing unless cancelled with 30 days notice. Pricing changes communicated at least 60 days before renewal.

When I first walked into [a service provider's intake office], the front desk asked me to fill out a six-page form. I was already exhausted. I'd already told my story to [multiple staff members] that day.

"What I would have wanted, more than anything, was for someone to say: 'We have a lot of paperwork, but you don't have to do it all today. What's the most important thing for us to know right now?'"

That single sentence would have changed everything about how I experienced that day. It would have told me that the system was bending to fit me, even just a little, instead of the other way around.

The information would still have gotten captured. The forms would still have gotten filled. But I would have left feeling seen instead of processed.
